Lavenham Blue yarn has been produced in Suffolk by Stoneweaving, exclusively for Cafe Knit. The yarn originates from a local flock of Leicester Longwool sheep, an endangered old breed that produce a fine luster wool. It has then been hand-dyed with woad grown in East Anglia.
Dyeing with woad in East Anglia is a tradition dating back to the days of Boudicca, Queen of the Iceni. Woad was used in Lavenham to produce Lavenham Blue Broadcloth, which bought the area great wealth until mechanisation took the cloth trade North.
It knits as a 2 ply weight yarn, comes in 100g skeins and is a gorgeous rich denim blue colour.
